Luis De Jesus: Extended hours

On view at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles through August 5, 2023 is Erik Olson: "The Mountain and the Sea", an exhibition of six large-scale paintings that complement, and expand 40 plein-air paintings. Olson ruminates on complex terrain, vegetation, and color of the mountain landscapes spilling into the sea, providing a natural atelier, one deeply etched by geological and human history. He employs color and conscientious brushwork techniques to bring life to the emotional, psychological, and collective connectedness with nature. Olson manages to create depth with impasto and sometimes clumps of paint, which, combined with the presence of natural debris, ground us into the present and push the boundaries of space and time, reminding us simply to celebrate the divinity of the natural environment.
